Public Lecture 7th June 2018

Benjamin Britten: Memories and variations

SPEAKER: George Odam

My wife and I were born near where Britten himself was born and lived, but two decades later. As children we took part in the Aldeburgh Festival and experienced Britten's work at first-hand.

My talk will cover his earlier life and explore some of the themes that can be discovered in his life and music, and their variations.
It is a new version of a lecture I gave as a singing member of the Bath U3A Choir in 2017 since were enjoying singing some of Britten's earlier music, however it will not be too challenging technically.
