We are a small group, with a current membership of nine. Attendances at meetings usually number between six and nine.
Our meetings run from 2.15 for about two-and-a-half hours. We do not take the game overly seriously, but all of us find it most fascinating. It is acknowledged that playing Chess helps to keep the brain active.
New members would be most welcome, so if anyone would like to join us please contact Roy, our convenor (contact details in the newsletter). We welcome all levels of experience and skill; we can even provide tuition to prospective members who have never played.
Beginners - Individual tuition by arrangement
The leader of the Chess group is unwilling to turn away any would-be applicant and, from time to time people who have never played chess enquire about joining. In these circumstances he is willing to arrange one-to-one tuition, at a mutually convenient time (but not at the same time as the Chess group meets), with a view to the person reaching a level at which it would be possible to transfer to the Thursday afternoon group.
The amount of tuition required for this purpose is difficult to predict and depends entirely upon the aptitude of the individual concerned.
