The U3A choir re-formed in September 2012 and meets every Monday morning at 10.00 until 12.00 at the Milsom Room, Manvers Street Church Rooms. The choir is open to everyone, with no auditions, although some ability to read music is useful though not essential! There is a sociable coffee break halfway through the morning.
The repertoire varies from Faure's Requiem, madrigals and partsongs, rounds, Hiawatha's Wedding Feast, to this year's main choice of Five Bavarian Songs by Elgar. An informal performance to friends and members is given each year.
The choir has now started to rehearse Hummel's Mass in Bb, together with some shorter items, some of which they will sing at the Open day in October.
In addition to the regular rehearsals, a very successful choral workshop with a guest conductor was held both last year and this year. In July, many choir members also enjoyed a day outing to visit Elgar's home near Worcester.
All members are welcomed to the choir and there are no auditions! However some previous experience of choral singing is useful together with an ability to read music. Because of the size of the rehearsal room, numbers are restricted and therefore sopranos and altos may be placed on a waiting list at present. Tenor and basses, however, are welcomed immediately!
