We meet as a group for leisurely rides of between 15 and 30 miles, but they can be shorter particularly in Winter.
As far as possible we use quiet lanes and cycle paths or the canal towpath, happily walk up hills whenever necessary and no-one will be left behind. We try to fit in a coffee and/or tea stop and either take a picnic lunch or go to a pub. Members are encouraged to volunteer to lead a ride but there is no pressure to do so.
Between April and October we have regular rides on the second Tuesday of each month when there is an appointed leader and a route decided in advance. In addition, on the fourth Thursday of the month we have a ‘Turn Up & Ride’, when we meet outside the main entrance to Green Park Station at 10.30am and whoever turns up on the day agrees the route.
Between November and March all rides on both the second Tuesday and the fourth Thursday are ‘Turn Up & Rides’ and again we meet at 10.30am outside Green Park Station and agree the route on the day.
Tuesday rides begin at various locations in Bath depending on where we're going and could be at the start of the Two Tunnels at Bloomfield, the beginning of the Railway Path at Brassmill, Green Park Station or the canal. Those of us who live out of Bath often arrange to join the group at a convenient place en route. Occasionally we take our bikes on the train or by car for a ride further afield, for example to Yatton for a ride along the Strawberry Line or Cardiff for the Taff Trail. We contact all our members with ride details by email where possible, otherwise by text message.
We welcome new members. You don't need to be an experienced cyclist but please do make sure both you and your bicycle are fit to cycle, especially if you don't take regular exercise. You must also be a member of Bath U3A and bring your membership card with you on your first ride with us.
